DNS Plank

To add more challenge to the plank exercise a version called the long lever plank has been introduced. Moving the elbows above in front of the head and thereby spreading the support points further from each other will definitively increase the demand and if performed correctly is a much better option to the traditional version.
The DNS program introduces a planking position which not only is more challenging but also is very functional.

Push-up

The push-up is an exercise that probably has been around since the beginning of time. It is a very good exercise providing it is performed correctly. Many sports-coaches tell the youngsters to “Drop down and give me 10”. The problem with this is that if the stabilization of the shoulder-blades is not sufficient the benefit of the exercise is negated by the over-load put onto the shoulders. The best advice I can give to anyone who wishes to take their training to the next level is to start making the training as hard as possible. It is far too common to see gym-goers standing around doing absolutely nothing else other than talking to friends or doing some strange exercises with minimal weights. What is wrong with isolated exercises?

There has been a lot of criticism against the traditional body-building type of training lately and as a result of that the “functional training” concept has emerged. Don’t get me wrong I am not going to claim that isolated muscle training is in any way superior to “functional” type of training. My aim is to show that training with muscle isolation is not as bad as it has been accused of being. “Train movement not muscles” is a phrase that has been frequently used. First of all we cannot train a muscle without a movement unless we perform isometric exercises. Instead of regarding it as isolated muscles let us call it isolated joint movement.
